Add tracking parameters for Google ads using Chrome extension

Updated over a week ago

Follow this guide to quickly add TrueProfit tracking parameters to your Google Ads so you can track conversions accurately, either via the TrueProfit Chrome extension or by editing your ads manually.

Before you start

Make sure you:

  • Are logged into your Google Ads account

  • Have the TrueProfit Parameter Generator Chrome extension installed

  • Know which website URL (landing page) your ad should point to

Step 1: Open your ads in Google Ads

  1. In your Google Ads account, go to Campaigns.

  2. In the left-hand menu, click Ads

Step 2: Edit the ad

3. Find the ad you want to track.

4. Hover over the ad row and click the pencil (✏️) icon that appears.

5. Click Edit.

Make sure you’re editing at the Ad level, not the campaign or ad group level. The parameter must be added to each ad.

Step 3: Get the TrueProfit parameter

You have two options:

Option A – Use the Chrome extension (recommended)
6. Open the TrueProfit Parameter Generator Chrome extension in your browser.
7. Select the correct store, ad platform (google ads), and product in the extension
8. Copy the generated URL parameter from the extension.

Option B – Create parameters manually
If you don’t want to use the extension, follow the manual parameter setup guide instead

Step 4: Add the parameter to the Final URL suffix

9. In the ad editing panel in Google Ads (still at Ad level), scroll down to More options or Ad URL options.

10. Under Ad URL options, find the field Final URL suffix.

11. Paste the parameter you copied from the TrueProfit extension into Final URL suffix.

Do not include a ? at the beginning of the parameter. Google Ads automatically handles this.

Step 5: Set your Final URL

12. In the Final URL field (above Ad URL options), paste the full URL of your website/landing page.

Make sure this URL correctly matches the page your ad is promoting (e.g. product page, collection page, or homepage).

Step 6: Save your changes

13. Review your ad details to ensure:

  • Final URL is correct

  • Final URL suffix has the TrueProfit parameter added

14. Click Save.

Once saved, your Google ad will start sending traffic with the TrueProfit tracking parameters, allowing TrueProfit to attribute conversions and profit to your Google Ads more accurately.
