Marketing Attribution Metrics Glossary

This article explains every metric in TrueProfit's Marketing Attribution report — what it means, how it's calculated, and what it tells you about your ad performance. Use Ctrl+F to quickly find the term you're looking for.

Ad Account

An ad account is a connected advertising account that sends ad performance and spend data to TrueProfit. It's the top level that contains campaigns, ad groups, and ads.

Ad Campaigns

A campaign is a group of ad groups that share the same goal (such as sales, traffic, or conversions) and budget.

Ad Groups

An ad group is a set of ads within a campaign that share the same audience, placement, and bidding settings.

Ads

An ad is the creative shown to customers (such as an image, video, or text).

  • Identify which creatives perform best so you can improve or replace low-performing ads.

Assisted Purchases

Assisted purchases are orders where the ad was clicked before the final click that led to the purchase. These ads helped influence the purchase, but did not receive the final credit.

Helps you:

  • See which ads support conversions, even if they don't get the final credit.

Last-clicked Purchases

Last-clicked purchases are orders where the ad was the final click that led to the purchase. These ads receive full credit for the purchase.

ROAS

ROAS (Return on Ad Spend) shows how much revenue you earn for every $1 spent on ads.

ROAS = Revenue / Ad Spend

  • See if your ads are generating more revenue than they cost.

Ad Spend

Ad Spend is the total amount you spent on ads

Impressions

Impressions are the number of times your ads were shown to users.

Clicks

Clicks are the number of times users clicked on your ads.

Click Through Rate

CTR (Click Through Rate) is the percentage of impressions that resulted in a click.

CTR = (Clicks / Impressions) × 100

Adds to Cart

Adds to Cart is the number of times users added a product to the cart after clicking your ad.

Cost per ATC

Cost per ATC is the average ad spend needed to generate one add-to-cart event.

Cost per ATC = Ad Spend / Adds to Cart

Purchases

Purchases are the number of orders attributed to your ads, based on when customers clicked your ads before purchasing.

Purchase Value

Purchase Value is the total revenue reported by your ad platform for purchases attributed to your ads.

Cost per Purchase

Cost per Purchase is the average ad spend needed to generate one purchase.

Cost per Purchase = Ad Spend / Purchases

Conversion Rate

Conversion Rate is the percentage of ad clicks that turned into purchases.

Conversion Rate = (Purchases / Clicks) × 100

Revenue

Revenue is the total order revenue from your Shopify store, calculated by TrueProfit and attributed to each ad channel.

It does not use data from your ad platform (such as Purchase Value) or Shopify's Total Sales figure.

For each order, the full revenue is credited to the channel that first brought the customer to your store.

Revenue = Gross Sales + Tax + Shipping - Discount - Refund

Requires UTM parameters on your ad URLs.

Helps you:

  • See how much revenue your store actually generated from ads.

Note: This is TrueProfit's own revenue attribution, not the Purchase Value reported by your ad platform. Total order revenue from your Shopify store, attributed to each ad channel. Calculated by TrueProfit (not ad platform data).

Total Costs

Total Cost is the sum of all costs to generate the revenue from each ad channel.

Total Costs = COGS + Shipping Cost + Handling Fee + Transaction Fee + Ad Spend + Custom Cost (Taxes Paid is included in Custom Costs)

Helps you:

  • See the total cost behind your revenue.

Net Profit

Net Profit is the revenue left after subtracting all costs.

Net Profit = Revenue − Total Cost

Helps you:

  • See how much profit your ads actually generate.

Net Profit Margin

Net Profit Margin is the percentage of revenue that remains as profit after all costs.

Net Profit Margin = (Net Profit / Revenue) × 100

Helps you:

  • See how profitable your revenue is

Net Profit on Ad Spend

POAS (Net Profit on Ad Spend) shows how much net profit you earn for every $1 spent on ads.

POAS = Net Profit / Ad Spend

Helps you:

  • See how efficiently your ads generate profit.
